Bill's journey starts out as a young Marine visiting the Philippines for the first time, it goes through his Marine duties in other parts of Asia, to the ultimate closing of US Bases in the Philippines, and Bill's discharge from the service.

But, much like Douglas MacArthur, Bill pledged that he would return, and he did it.
